Banteay Meanchey, September 17 — Once again, Thai forces committed a grave breach of the ceasefire agreement by violently suppressing Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, O Chrov District’s O Beichoan Commune. The assault left at least 23 victims, including innocent civilians and a monk wounded, sparking outrage across the border community.

The incident unfolded as Cambodian villagers gathered to resist attempts by Thai troops to encroach on national territory. Instead of de-escalating, Thai forces advanced with aggression, deploying slingshots, air guns, and smoke bombs against unarmed villagers. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as smoke filled the air and civilians, including women and elderly residents, were struck and injured.

Local authorities confirmed that the clash violated the spirit and letter of the ceasefire agreement, which both sides are obligated to uphold. They condemned the attack as a deliberate provocation and a violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and international law.

This attack is a stark reminder of the dangers faced daily by Cambodian civilians living along contested areas. This tragedy has caused deep pain among the families of those harmed, and it highlights the heavy burden carried by border communities who only seek to live in safety and dignity. Moving forward, we hoped that through dialogue, justice, and international cooperation, a peaceful and lasting solution can be reached—one that prevents further bloodshed and ensures that Cambodian citizens may live without fear on our rightful land.
